How do I create a farm for a customer in the Enterprise Portal?

Create a new farm for a customer or member in the Enterprise Portal, add their fields, and transfer ownership when you're ready

Written by Enja Matthee

TL;DR: Go to Manage farms, select the orange + button, choose Create a new farm, add fields with Draw or Import, then transfer farm account ownership when you're ready.

What is an enterprise-created farm?

The Enterprise Portal lets you create and prepare a new Farmable farm on behalf of a customer, grower, or member.

Use this when you want to set up their farm and fields before handing the account over to them.

You can:

  • create the farm

  • add the farm's fields

  • prepare the farm before the grower logs in; and

  • transfer ownership to the grower when you're ready.

This is different from inviting a farm that already exists in Farmable. If the grower already has a Farmable farm, use Invite farm instead.

Enterprise Owner and Enterprise Admin can create a farm.

Create a new farm

1. Open the Enterprise Portal.

2. Go to Manage farms.

3. Select the orange + button.

4. Select Create a new farm.

Farmable takes you through the farm setup.

Tell us about the farm

1. Enter the farm information requested on screen.

2. Continue to the next step.

Add the farm's fields

Add the fields that belong to the farm. You can:

  • Draw — draw the field boundaries directly on the map; or

  • Import — import existing field boundaries.

Continue adding the fields the farm needs. You can also return to the farm later if more fields need to be added.

Transfer the farm to the customer

Once the farm is created and set up, you can transfer farm account ownership to the grower. That lets you finish the initial setup first and hand the farm over when it is ready.

1. On the Transfer farm account ownership step, choose the ownership option you need.

2. Follow the instructions on screen.

3. If you are transferring the farm to the customer, enter their details and send the invitation.

What happens when ownership is transferred?

The customer receives an invitation from Farmable.

They follow the link in the email to access Farmable and continue with their account setup.

The farm and fields you created for them are already available when they get started.

Manage the farm after creating it

The farm appears under Manage farms in your Enterprise Portal alongside the other farms connected to your organisation.

From here, you can open the farm and continue managing the information available to your Enterprise account.

FAQs

How is creating a farm different from inviting a farm?

Create a farm sets up a new Farmable farm on behalf of a customer or member. Invite farm connects a farm that already exists in Farmable to your Enterprise account.

Who can create a farm?

Enterprise Owner and Enterprise Admin. Enterprise Members cannot create a farm.

Do I need to transfer ownership immediately?

No. You can create and prepare the farm first, then transfer farm account ownership when you're ready to hand it over to the customer.

Can I add the fields before the customer gets access?

Yes. During setup you can Draw or Import the customer's fields before transferring the farm to them.

What happens after I transfer ownership?

Farmable sends the customer an invitation. They use it to access Farmable and continue with the farm that is already set up for them.
